How do I request an appointment?

What happens during the first appointment?

The first appointment is an initial evaluation — a chance for Dr. DioGuardi to learn about you (or your child), understand what brings you in, and begin to get a sense of your goals. It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and get a feel for whether the practice is the right fit.

How long are sessions?

Individual therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes. Initial evaluation appointments may run longer, depending on the complexity of the presenting concerns.

How often will we meet?

Most clients begin with weekly sessions. The frequency may shift over time based on your progress, goals, and circumstances. Dr. DioGuardi will discuss a recommended schedule with you during the initial evaluation.

Is the practice accepting new patients?

Please reach out to inquire about current availability. Dr. DioGuardi will do his best to accommodate new clients or provide a referral if his schedule is full.

Do you accept insurance?

Accepted Answer

With the exception of Medicare and the Anthem Medicaid plan, Dr. DioGuardi is an out-of-network provider and does not bill insurance directly. However, many insurance plans include out-of-network mental health benefits that may reimburse a portion of session fees. Dr. DioGuardi can provide a superbill (a detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What payment methods are accepted?

Payment is due at the time of service. The following forms of payment are accepted: Check, cash, credit card and Zelle.

What is a superbill, and how do I use it?

A superbill is an itemized receipt that includes the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network reimbursement claim. After each session, Dr. DioGuardi can provide one upon request. You submit it directly to your insurer — the process varies by plan, so it is worth calling your insurance company in advance to understand your out-of-network benefits.

What types of therapy does Dr. DioGuardi use?

Dr. DioGuardi draws on a range of evidence-based approaches, tailored to each individual's needs and goals. His work is informed by cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and developmental frameworks, among others. He does not take a one-size-fits-all approach — treatment is always personalized.

The length of treatment varies widely depending on the individual, the presenting concerns, and the goals of therapy. Some people benefit from a focused, short-term course of treatment; others find longer-term work more meaningful. Dr. DioGuardi will discuss expectations and timelines with you as treatment progresses.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. What you share in sessions is private and protected by law. There are narrow exceptions — such as situations involving imminent risk of harm — which Dr. DioGuardi will explain fully at the outset of treatment.

Do you work with children and teenagers?

Yes. Dr. DioGuardi has extensive experience working with children and adolescents across a wide range of developmental and clinical concerns. He also works closely with parents and caregivers to support progress at home and school.

Please provide at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be subject to a fee. Dr. DioGuardi will discuss the full policy during the initial consultation.

Do you offer telehealth sessions?

Yes, telehealth sessions are available upon request. Sessions are provided on a secure, HIPAA-compliant video call platform. Due to licensing regulations, telehealth sessions are only available to patients who live in New York State.
