Psychologist conducting an evaluation with a child

Psychoeducational Testing

Comprehensive evaluations to understand how you or your child learns, thinks, and processes information.

What is psychoeducational testing?

Psychoeducational testing is a thorough, individualized evaluation that examines cognitive abilities, academic achievement, attention, memory, language processing, and social-emotional functioning. The goal is to gain a clear picture of a person's unique strengths and challenges.

Results from a psychoeducational evaluation can clarify a diagnosis, guide treatment planning, inform school accommodations, and help families and individuals make sense of difficulties that may have gone unexplained for years.

Who can benefit from an evaluation?

Children & Adolescents

Students struggling academically, showing signs of learning differences, attention difficulties, or developmental concerns can benefit from early identification and targeted support.

Adults

Adults who suspect undiagnosed learning disabilities, ADHD, or cognitive changes — or who need documentation for workplace or academic accommodations — can gain clarity and direction through evaluation.

School Referrals

Evaluations can be requested by schools, pediatricians, or other providers to better understand a student's needs and develop appropriate educational plans.

Diagnostic Clarification

When prior diagnoses feel incomplete or inconsistent, a comprehensive evaluation can provide a more accurate and nuanced understanding of a person's profile.

The evaluation process

01

Initial Consultation

We begin with a clinical interview to understand your concerns, history, and goals for the evaluation. For children, parents are included in this conversation.

02

Testing Sessions

Standardized assessments are administered across one or more sessions, typically lasting two to four hours each. Testing is conducted in a comfortable, supportive environment.

03

Scoring & Analysis

Results are carefully scored and interpreted in the context of background history, behavioral observations, and clinical judgment.

04

Feedback & Report

A comprehensive written report is provided, followed by a feedback session to review findings, answer questions, and discuss recommendations in plain language.

Areas commonly assessed

  • Cognitive abilities and intellectual functioning
  • Academic achievement (reading, writing, math)
  • Attention and executive functioning
  • Memory and processing speed
  • Language and phonological processing
  • Social-emotional and behavioral functioning
  • Learning disabilities (dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia)
  • ADHD and attention-related concerns
